Smells Like Hot Jazz
Other WorkSometimes I enjoy taking a beautifully blank, serene piece of paper and marking it, at times, relentlessly, until I find the urge to begin filling in between the marks. To cover the white, to take away the negative space introduced by bleaching, by industrial process and delivered to my doorstep for the edification of my ego in two dimensions. But, you can't start a sentence with but and you can't always cover the entire surface, sometimes you respond to what you've made instead of it responding to you, because this is jazz. This isn't about what you put in but what you leave out. Where you let themes and rhythms mix, where things intersect, it's where and how I responded in this moment of creation as the creator.
