Portrait of Elaine de Kooning

The first in a series of work focusing on the inspirational artists in my life in a form of Cubism portraiture. For this first attempt I chose 20th century American abstract expressionist painter Elaine de Kooning. I found myself drawn to her loose and expressive figurative work and deep sense of color, but also through her I find a small connection in she taught my mentor and professor for a short time while he obtained his masters. Although I can never meet her I found myself trying to connect in a deeper way with her memory and artwork, as such the twisted abstraction of her portrait is in a way my attempt to see in her the foundations of my style.
