An experimental oil on canvas painting, Coal Miner’s Son, I left large swaths of bare canvas to force myself to consider form and a more concise use of line and texture. Typically I rely on a Fauvist inspired approach to color theory, but knowing that the bleached white of the canvas would present a constant contrast made me take a minimalist turn towards color which helped, in the end, to enforce the dusty, dirty, clogged filling that permeates my body on a near constant basis.
